Tiffin-Seneca Public Library, Tiffin-Seneca United Way, and Tiffin City Schools have partnered again this school year to present the literacy mentorship program, “Read to Succeed,” and are in need of tutors. The Read to Succeed Program aims to create a sustainable and effective program to assist elementary students in reading and comprehension skills and provide one-on-one interaction with community volunteers to develop these skills. Working together with local school systems, Read to Succeed will reach students identified by teachers as “not on track” to maximize reading potential and bring students closer to meeting reading requirements. Tutoring sessions will improve children’s reading skills and comprehension, making them better prepared to succeed in school and in life. The frequency and duration of tutoring sessions will be determined in training by teachers’ classroom needs and volunteer availability. Volunteers will required to be at least 18 years old and will undergo background checks before engaging with students. Funding for background has been secured through the Tiffin Charitable Youth Advisory Grant and the Friends of the Library for volunteers, prior to working with the children.
