Old Fort High School senior Gretta Kissell was among five Glammy scholarship award winners nationwide to receive a $1,000 scholarship award from the GlamourGals Foundation. The awards ceremony was held on May 19, 2018, at the Goddard Riverside Community Center, located in New York, New York.
The mission of the nonprofit is to inspire and organize teen volunteers to provide companionship to women in senior homes through makeovers. The Glammy Scholarship Awards recognize outstanding volunteers with unique accomplishments who are exceptional examples of the GlamourGals mission.
Inspired by her grandfather who has Alzheimer’s, Kissell founded the GlamourGals of Tiffin chapter in 2016 and has been volunteering and served as its president since then. As a dedicated president, she always goes above and beyond to make each makeover special for the seniors of Tiffin. This fall, she will be attending Columbia University to study Chemistry and Spanish and wishes to continue her involvement with GlamourGals.
“I felt like I didn’t know what grounded me. I thought it was in my appearance and my athletics and trying to strive to be the best, and I had to step back. That’s what I’ve been trying to figure out since and I think GlamourGals has really helped me with that. Compassion and giving and living in the moment, that’s kind of what keeps me grounded now. Knowing that it’s all going to work out and I can love on other people, that’s all that matters,” Kissell said in her acceptance speech. She attended the ceremony with her mother, sister, and grandmother. For more information, call 631-404-0761 or go to glamourgals.org.
