The Elks National Foundation is proud to announce the 2019 Most Valuable Student Scholarship contest, which is open to any high school senior who is a US Citizen. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need.
Eligibility includes: current high school seniors, or the equivalent, who are citizens of the United States are eligible to apply; applicants need not be related to a member of the Elks; high school graduates are not eligible to apply. There is The Brain Freeze Challenge happening at Big Dipper, FroZone, I.C.Treats-N-Things, Jolly’s, Little Hugo’s, Rose Marie’s Eats & Treats, Shake Shak, and Uncle Mike’s. You only have to stop by your favorite shop and grab a punch card. Then visit all 8 participating locations during September 4-22. When you’ve achieved a total brain freeze, turn in your card and information to the last stop, and they will notify you when you shirt is ready. A $5 minimum purchase is required.
The Tiffin-Seneca Public Library will be celebrating “Library Card Sign-up Month” throughout the month of September. All month long, new patrons will be entered into a drawing for a gift basket. The Junior Department at the Tiffin-Seneca Public Library is to host “Playtime @ the Library” on Fridays, September 7 and 21 from 10 a.m. – noon in the Frost Kalnow Room. Hosted with Seneca County’s Ohio Early Intervention, toys and activities will be offered to children, ages 18 months to five years old, to interact with their caregivers in an unstructured, creative play. The St. Francis Senior Ministries will be holding a Quarter Auction Fundraiser for their Walk to End Alzheimer’s team on Saturday, September 8th from 1-4 p.m. at the Elizabeth Schaefer Apartments Auditorium, 190 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin. Admission is $5, which includes 2 bidding paddles. The Bloomville Lions Club is holding their 53rd annual Ox Roast on Sunday, September 9th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bloomville Fire Station, 74 S Marion St. The menu features pit-beef sandwiches, macaroni or potato salad, applesauce, ice cream, and drink. Patrons can dine in or go through a drive-through. Proceeds will support eyeglasses and other local causes.
The Tiffin-Seneca Public Library will be hosting, “Preschool Story Time,” for children ages three through six on Tuesdays, September 11, 18, and 25 at 10 a.m. in the Frost Kalnow Community Room. Stories, songs, fingerplays, crafts, and much more will entertain and teach preschoolers during this free thirty minute activity. The Seneca County General Health District will be sponsoring a Senior Health Check on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at the Kiwanis Manor from 9:30-11:15 a.m. for anyone age 60 or over.
