Tiffin-Seneca Public Library’s New Newspaper Archive @ Tiffin-Seneca Public Library

The Tiffin-Seneca Public Library now has a new database called Newspaper Archive: Ohio Edition to aid in your genealogy research. Newspaper Archive: Ohio Edition gives you free access to NewspaperArchive.com, the world’s largest online newspaper archive. This is a massive collection of more than seven million newspapers that covers Ohio history from 1800 to 2017 and allows you to search for your ancestors by name and location. Tiffin Art Guild’s “Batik, the Language of Cloth” @ Tiffin Art Guild

The opening ceremony for “Batik, the Language of Cloth” will be held on June 2nd, from 4-6 p.m. and the exhibition will continue until June 16th. Daniel Gundlach will be teaching two workshops: “Shibori,” for people ages 8 to 14 years old, on June 9th; and “Batik,” for students 15 years old and up, on June 16th. He will also give a presentation about his experience in Indonesia with excerpts from his DVD, “The Batik of Java, A Visual Journey,” at the gallery on Monday, June 18th at 7 p.m. All events will be held at the Tiffin Art Guild Gallery, 130 S. The Teen Department at the Tiffin-Seneca Public Library has announced the summer reading program, “Libraries Rocks!” from Monday, June 4th through July 31st. The summer reading program includes eight weeks of reading, prizes, and special events. Teens, seventh through eleventh grade, may register at the Information Desk. They will receive a reading log to keep track of the number of minutes they read and their summer adventures. Every 30 minutes of reading, teens earn an entry for a prize. Tiffin-Seneca Public Library and Tiffin YMCA’s “Libraries Rock!” Day Camps @ Tiffin Community YMCA

The Tiffin-Seneca Public Library and the Tiffin YMCA have announced their announced their collaboration this summer; combining the YMCA’s day camps with the library’s summer reading program, “Libraries Rocks!” While at day camp, the YMCA will encourage children to read every day for at least 20 minutes. T-SPL will provide the YMCA a rotating collection of books for the campers. Participants will mark their reading progress on a reading log and receive a prize at the end of the week. At the end of summer, campers who complete the will earn an entry for the grand prize, a trophy, a certificate, an invitation to the finale party at the Library and an ice cream, provided by the Library. The day camp summer reading program includes nine weeks of reading (with no book reports!), prizes, and special programs. Children age five through going into fifth grade are welcome to join in the fun at the YMCA. The program will begin on June 4th and last until the last day of camp. The Junior Department at the Tiffin-Seneca Public Library has announced the summer reading program, “The Rubber Ducky Club” from Monday, June 4th through July 31st. Parents are encouraged to read to children, age birth to 35 months, during the eight week program. It is believed that reading to babies, not only creates a special bonding time together, but also builds their brain power, helps them learn language, encourages speech, and prepares them to be readers.
