The Tiffin-Seneca Public Library now has a new database called Newspaper Archive: Ohio Edition to aid in your genealogy research. Newspaper Archive: Ohio Edition gives you free access to NewspaperArchive.com, the world’s largest online newspaper archive. This is a massive collection of more than seven million newspapers that covers Ohio history from 1800 to 2017 and allows you to search for your ancestors by name and location. Seneca County Parks is to host Un-Natural Hike on Wednesday, May 23rd at 6 p.m. at Bowen Nature Preserve, 11891 E County Rd 24, Republic. Walk the trails in search of “un-natural” things. This walk will last about one hour and half and qualifies for the Walking Stick program. This program is free and open to the public. No registration is needed. The City of Tiffin Zoning Board of Appeals Hearing is set for Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 3 p.m. at City Hall to review the following request: Calvert High School has requested a variance to reduce setbacks for a non-residential use abutting a residential use, on the southerly side by 24.3′ and the easterly side by 28′ located at 287 Charlotte Street, Tiffin.
The Junior Department at Tiffin-Seneca Public Library is in need of volunteers to help with this year’s summer reading program, “Libraries Rock!” Volunteers, who have completed the sixth grade through adults, will be asked to volunteer approximately two hours, once a week and help to register children in the summer reading program and give prizes out in the Junior Library. The opening ceremony for “Batik, the Language of Cloth” will be held on June 2nd, from 4-6 p.m. and the exhibition will continue until June 16th. Daniel Gundlach will be teaching two workshops: “Shibori,” for people ages 8 to 14 years old, on June 9th; and “Batik,” for students 15 years old and up, on June 16th. He will also give a presentation about his experience in Indonesia with excerpts from his DVD, “The Batik of Java, A Visual Journey,” at the gallery on Monday, June 18th at 7 p.m. All events will be held at the Tiffin Art Guild Gallery, 130 S. Reel in some fun at the annual fishing derby! Kids 17 and under can attend the Hook Setters Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 2nd, from 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m. at Izaak Walton League, 3570 N. County Rd. 33. Parents and guardians are welcome and encouraged to come and help as their kids learn the ropes of fishing and participate in the fishing contest. After the fishing contest, participants can relax with a free lunch, as well as a chance to win door prizes. Registration will occur the day of the event at Izaak Walton.
